Issue
We were inspecting frozen chicken breast, thigh, and tenderloin with an X-ray Inspection System to check for remaining bones. Despite this, we received several complaints each month.
Solution
By replacing our system with a high-precision X-ray Inspection System capable of AI inspection and switching inspections to thawed chicken, we were able to halve the number of complaints.
Background:Frequent Customer Complaints Due to Undetected Bones, Limitations of Conventional X-ray Inspection System
Our company manufactures and sells processed chicken products. We inspect frozen chicken using an X-ray Inspection System, manually removing hard bones when detected, and then process the chicken into products such as fried chicken and cutlets for shipment. However, some bones were still missed, and products containing bones occasionally reached the market. We received several complaints each month and began to feel the limitations of the detection capabilities of the X-ray Inspection System we were using at that time.
Reason of installation:Proposal to Significantly Reduce Missed Bones with a Combination of High-Precision X-ray Inspection and AI Inspection
After consulting several inspection system manufacturers, we received a proposal from SYSTEM SQUARE INC. to combine a highly precise dual-energy X-ray Inspection System with AI inspection. In an inline demonstration on our production line, the system detected small hard bones of around 3 mm, sharp clavicle fragments, and flat triangular bones in chicken breast. Their fast demo setup and early verification, completed before other companies submitted estimates, built strong trust and led us to implement the system.
How it works:Customer Complaints Halved, Workload Reduced Through Improved Inspection Method
Customer complaints about bones were halved, and we saw immediate results after implementation. In addition, we received a suggestion to switch from frozen to thawed inspections, which greatly reduced false detections. We were surprised to learn that frozen chicken becomes firmer and more prone to false detections due to ice. Their thorough explanation of the inspection principles and contributing factors demonstrated their expertise as a specialist manufacturer of inspection systems and gave us a strong sense of reassurance.
- ▲AI inspection is effective for detecting small and thin bones.
- ▲This is only one example of inspection and does not guarantee inspection performance.
- ▲X-ray inspection system upgrade & process optimization halved complaints.
- ▲Frozen chicken often causes false bone detections.
- ▲Inline learning enables low-cost, fast implementation.
- ▲AI builds the optimal classification model.
